A “Cheat Sheet” for Back to School Home Organization
The supplies are bought, new shoes are waiting by the door, and parents all over the Salem-Keizer area are anxiously awaiting the sound of the school bus coming down the street. With changing schedules and stressed out kids, it’s going to be a busy time of year but you don’t have to let the start of a new school year overwhelm you when you prepare your home for the crazy mornings and extra homework to come.
Build a command center for the whole family
With every member of your family going in different directions, it’s important to have one place where everyone is sure to connect. Keep an eye on everyone’s activities with a master calendar and create a low-tech, reliable message board the old-fashioned way with chalk and bulletin boards. Whether you keep it simple or go all-out, be sure your command center meets all the needs of your busy family.
Make necessities easily accessible
Grab-and-go mornings can be stress-free when the most needed items are ready and waiting for you. Group commonly used bathroom items, like hairbrushes and makeup in baskets to eliminate extra steps, and be sure to keep school lunches, snacks and quick breakfast food on your refrigerator’s bottom shelf for your littlest students to grab when you are running behind.
Set your kids up for a successful tomorrow with a homework station specifically suited to fit their needs. Workspaces designed for their size, with good lighting and all the supplies they need, will make homework time easier for everyone.
Keep backpacks and homework together to prevent something getting left behind. You can do this by creating a backpack and jacket hanging spot, including cute individual nooks with baskets or bowls for small, easily forgotten items.
